Abstract Peripheral collisions for 20Ne+20Ne system at 25 MeV/A were analysed in detail by means of quantum molecular dynamics model. Its characteristics, coexistences and competitions between deep inelastic collision and fragmentation were discussed, the rnechanism giving rise to intermediate mass fragments were also explored.
