Abstract The α transfer effect on sub-barrier fusion is calculated for 16O+148Sm system by using the linear combination of nuclear orbits theory. The coupling between elastic scattering channel and α transfer reaction channel causes the enhancement of the fusion cross section at sub-barrier energies.
