Abstract For weakly-waveguide, using contraction transformation, a scalar wave equation with an axial direction variable z is established to describe a single-mode taper fiber. Gaussian function is used to approximate the fundamental mode of field in the taper fiber. The local field and the local propagation constant expressions are given.
