Abstract : Single crystals of Sr3 Ga2 Ge4 O14 :Cr are grown by the Czochralski method. The polarized optical absorption spectra of Cr in visible and near-infrared wavelength are presented and analyzed. It is suggested that Cr enters the octahedral and tetrahedral positions as Cr3+ and Cr4+ respectively.
