Abstract Neodymium Aluminum Borate crystals with dimensions up to 20 x 20 x 45mm3 have been grown successfully. Laser rod of Ф3.2m x 23.7mn can be fabricated from the crystal. The relationship between the luminescence concentration quenching effect and the structure characteristics of the crystals have been studied. The pulsed laser performance of this crystal at an energy output of 422mJ, is reported.
