Abstract We present a system to produce continuous and widely wavelength-tunable optical short pulses by use of a self-seeded Fabry-Pérot laser diode. The system exhibits a good sidemode suppression ratio of greater than 37dB over a large wavelength tuning range of 48nm. The system is also easy to operate and is convenient for continuous wavelength tuning.
