Efficient Formation of Large Chain Carbon Clusters

Abstract We find that bare C-n clusters favor chain structure from n =4 up to 43 by laser desorption mass spectrometric study of C60 admixed with polystyrene, whereas both one- and two-dimensional structures should coexist in the same mass region in gas, phase generally. The origin of the anomaly was also proposed in the text.
