Abstract We present a similarity analysis for the Marangoni convection in a rectangular open boat. Furthermore, an efficient analytical decomposition and a numerical technique are provided. The approximately analytical solution may be represented in terms of a rapid convergent power series with elegantly computable terms. The results are compared with the numerical ones in the literature and the associated transfer behaviour is analysed.
