Abstract The light scattering microscopy is proposed, which reconstructs the height distribution function of a random surface from the speckle intensity of the scattered light wave. In the computational simulation, we generated the random surfaces of Gaussian correlation and the speckle intensities, and reconstructed the surfaces by Gerchberg-Saxton (G-S) and modified G-S algorithm. The simulation proves this microscopy works well.
