Abstract It is found that a novel drift term, purely induced by cross correlation between multiplicative and additive noises, in the one-dimensional Langevin equation for a single-mode laser intensity has a significant effect on the intensity statistical properties near and below threshold, and when colored multiplicative noise is involved. This term makes the laser intensity fluctuations lower but effective eigenvalues larger for positive noise cross correlation.
