Abstract The speed of first sound in liquid helium II is calculated quantum mechanically. The calculation is made by using a modified version of Brueckner and Sawada’s method [Phys. Rev. 106 (1959) 1128] and is based on the postulate that the hard core length is directly proportional to the negative of the pressure.
