Abstract Nuclear hezadecapole splittings of I = 2, 5/2, 3 ... 5 nuclei under octahedral symmetry are derived. The off diagonal terms of nuclear hexadecapole Hamiltonian play significant role in nuclear spin energy level splittings. When off diagonal terms are considered, there will be higher degree of energy level degeneracy than diagonal term-only approximation. All results are checked by group theory.
