ABSORPTION AND EMISSION SPECTRA OF RARE-GASES IN VACUUM ULTRAVIOLET REGION

Abstract
The vacuum ultraviolet absorption and emission spectra of rare-gas vander Waals molecules were observed. A large broadening of at least 240Å of Xe first resonance absorption line was obtained at cell presgure 4 atm. Strong continuous emission of heavier rare gases at 1300-3000Å was obtained using self-triggered condensed discharge in a π-shaped quartz discharge tube.
