Drag Force on a String Fastened to a Sphere Moving in a Viscous Fluid
-
Abstract
The viscous drag force acting on a thin cotton string fastened to a sphere moving in glycerin has been determined by using a photogate apparatus, showing that the force acting on the string agrees with a simplified 2-dimensional theory for string Reynolds’ number Ns < 0.008.
