POWER SPECTRA ANALYSIS AND THE NOMENCLATURE OF PERIODS IN THE LORENZ MODEL
DING Ming-zhou, HAO Bai-lin, HAO Xin*
Chin. Phys. Lett. 1985, 2 (1): 1-4 .
Abstract   PDF(pc) (52KB) ( 522 )
We have determined the drift of the fundamental frequency in the Lorenz model from a large amount of power spectra. This opens the possibility to devise an "absolute" nomenclature for various periods seen in the bifurcation diagram.

ANALYTICAL STUDY OF A BIMODAL MAPPING RELATED TO A HYBRID OPTICAL BISTABILE DEVICE USING LIQUID CRYSTAL
ZHANG Hong-jun, DAI Jian-hua, WANG Peng-ye, JIN Chao-ding, HAO Bai-lin*
Chin. Phys. Lett. 1985, 2 (1): 5-8 .
Abstract   PDF(pc) (62KB) ( 537 )
We suggest a method to determine analytically the parameter values of all superstable periods and the equations of dark lines seen in various bifurcation diagrams, plotted for a bimodal mapping related to a hybrid optical bistable device in which liquid crystal was used as the nonlinear medium.

EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS ON A GaAlAs LASER DIODE OPTICALLY PUMPED CESIUM BEAM
WU Xin-xin, YAO Shu-tong, SHANG Song-quan, XUE Jian-wei, XIE Lin-zhen
Chin. Phys. Lett. 1985, 2 (1): 9-12 .
Abstract   PDF(pc) (57KB) ( 762 )
Almost all the atoms in the hyperfine sublevel F=4, mF =0 (“clock level") of cesium ground state have been pumped out by using a laser diode tuned on the Cs-D2 line; and 15.2% population difference (|δoo|) which is more than two times better than what the traditional magnetical selecting state method could provide is found. This experimental result can be applied into building an optically pumped Cs beam frequency standard and better performance will be expected.

BREAKING THE PHASE AMBIGUITIES ARISING FROM ANOMALOUS SCATTERING TECHNIQUE BY THE DIRECT METHODAPPLIED TO A KNOWN PROTEIN STRUCTURE
FAN Hai-fu, GU Yuan-xin and HAN Fu-son
Chin. Phys. Lett. 1985, 2 (1): 13-14 .
Abstract   PDF(pc) (30KB) ( 392 )
The method proposed by Fan et al. has been applied to the discrimination of the doublets arising from the experimental OAS (one-wave-length anomalous scattering) data of the Hg-derivative of APP. Encouraging result was obtained which showed that the method is hopeful to be an important tool in the structure analysis of protein crystals.
THE FOCUSING PHENOMENA OF SAW EXCITED BY AN IDT WITH SINUSOIDAL WAVEFRONT AND LINEARLY CHIRPED PERIODIC DISTRIBUTION
WANG Zuo-qing
Chin. Phys. Lett. 1985, 2 (1): 15-18 .
Abstract   PDF(pc) (48KB) ( 524 )
The focusing phenomena of SAW excited by an IDT with sinusoidal wavefront and linearly chirped periodic distribution has been explored. Some experimental results are compared with theoretical one and agree with it fairly well.
MULTIPHOTON IONIZATION SPECTRUM OF TOLUENE
FU Ke-jian*, Whetten R.L. and Grant E.R.
Chin. Phys. Lett. 1985, 2 (1): 19-22 .
Abstract   PDF(pc) (54KB) ( 615 )
We have obtained the highly excited state spectrum of toluene using ultraviolet two-photon resonance three-photon ionization. We assign the observed structure to three new Rydberg series converging to the first ionization potential.

A NEW PLANE-SYMMETRIC SOLUTION OF EINSTEIN-MAXWELL EQUATIONS
LI Jian-zeng, LIANG Can-bin*
Chin. Phys. Lett. 1985, 2 (1): 23-26 .
Abstract   PDF(pc) (46KB) ( 578 )
We present a new solution (gab,Fab) of Einstein-Maxwell equations, where gab is plane-symmetric while Fab is not fully plane-symmetric.
AN EXPERIMENT WHICH MEASURES THE VELOCITY DISPERSION AND NONLINEAR PROPERTIES OF GRAVITATINAL SURFACE WATER WAVES
WU Jun-ru*, Isadore Rudnick
Chin. Phys. Lett. 1985, 2 (1): 27-30 .
Abstract   PDF(pc) (68KB) ( 447 )
An experiment designed to study the dispersion relation and nonlinearity of surface water waves in a trough is discussed.
THE VARIATION OF IN ISLANDS ON InP SURFACE VERSUS ION SPUTTERING ANGLE OBSERVED BY THE ELECTRON ENERGY LOSS SPECTROSCOPY
HOU Xiao-yuan, YU Ming-ren and WANG Xun
Chin. Phys. Lett. 1985, 2 (1): 31-34 .
Abstract   PDF(pc) (98KB) ( 472 )
The idea of using grazing angle ion sputtering to minimize the-formation of In islands on InP(111) surface has been presented and its correctness has been proved by the measurement of electron energy loss spectroscopy.
DIVISION OF FREQUENCY AND CHAOS
QIN Guang-rong, GONG De-chun, YANG Chun-yuan, HU Gang, MAO Jin-ying, ZHANG Lin
Chin. Phys. Lett. 1985, 2 (1): 35-38 .
Abstract   PDF(pc) (53KB) ( 634 )
A new experiment on an electric circuit with non-linear ferromagnetic cores is designed to show the roads to chaos. The phase figures of the bifurcations of division of frequency and chaos in the three-dimensional parameter space are reported.
A POSSIBLE NEW EXPONENT FOR DIRECTED LATTICE ANIMALS
YANG Yu-shuang and ZHANG Zhao-qing
Chin. Phys. Lett. 1985, 2 (1): 39-42 .
Abstract   PDF(pc) (45KB) ( 519 )
The shape of directed lattice animals is studied by introducing a new exponent, vF, discribing the divergence of the front width of the animal clusters. In two dimensions, the results from exact enumerations and real-space renormalization group method suggest that vF = 0.43 ± 0.03.
THREE KINDS OF HYDROGEN-RELATED ELECTRON IRRADIATED DEFECTS IN SILICON GROWN IN HYDROGEN
HUA Zong-lu and QIN Guo-gang, ZHOU Jie*
Chin. Phys. Lett. 1985, 2 (1): 43-47 .
Abstract   PDF(pc) (63KB) ( 712 )
We have identified three kinds of hydrogen-related (HR) irradiated defects in Si crystals grown in H atmosphere. They are located at 0.08eV and 0.20eV below the conduction band and 0.l0eV above the valance band respectively. Because they have different annealing temperatures, they are not the different charged states of the same defect center but correspond to different centers.
