Abstract We derive an explicit analytical expression of the efficiency for a scheme of four-wave mixing (FWM) in a ladder-type lifetime broadened four-level atomic system and show that this scheme can achieve an FWM efficiency higher than the previous ultraslow light FWM schemes.
