Abstract The possible mechanisms of deuteron-deuteron fusion during electrolytic infusion of deuterons into metallic palladium electrode are studied, and a rough estimations of the fusion rate are made. Our results show that D-D fusion rate in the equilibrium deuteron system at normal temperature and atmospheric pressure can not reach the level which can be measured experimentally.
