Abstract A normalized two-dimensional band-limited Weierstrass fractal function is used for modelling the rough surface. An analytic solution of the scattered field and variance of scattered intensity from this Weierstrass fractal surface is given based on the Kirchhoff theory. The result shows that the scattering pattern in the near forward direction can be approximated to the slope of a linear equation.
