Abstract We present a new method for the numerical calculation of exact complex eigenvalues of Schrödinger equations for a hydrogen atom in a uniform electric field. This method allows a direct calculation for complex eigenvalues without using any auxiliary treatment, such as the Breit-Wigner parameterization and the complex scale transformation, etc. The characteristics of high excited atoms in electric field have attracted extensive interest in experimental aspect, however, the existing theoretical calculation is only up to n = 40. Here we present the computation results ranging from n = 1 to 100. The data for n ≤ 40 are in agreement with the results of other researchers.
