Abstract A system with disoriented chiral condensates (DCCs) is considered in the presence of residual thermal pion distributions. By self-consistently solving the coupled equations for the condensates, the thermal pion distributions, and the self-energies, it is observed that the neutral pion fraction f as a signal of DCCs is erased by the thermal pions.
