Abstract : A unique spring model is established to describe a cylindrical interface layer with hexagonal (or transversely isotropic) symmetry between two solids, which is realized by asymptotically expanding the transfer matrix for the anisotropic layer. The accuracy of the model is evaluated based on a comparison between the exact and the approximate solutions of the scattering cross sections of an obliquely incident ultrasonic wave from an interface layer with different thickness.
