Abstract A new feasible approach for diagnosing plasma density profile is given in this paper. Plasma density profiles of some hohlraum targets are obtained by comparing theoretical and experimental results of the stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) spectrum. The theoretical model of SRS is three-wave coupling equations.
