ON THE VECTOR MESON DOMINATE HYPOTHESIS AND THE RA = σALAT VALUE IN ELECTRON-NUCLEUS DEEP INELASTIC SCATTERING
PENG Hongan, LIU Liansou*
Chin. Phys. Lett. 1986, 3 (10): 433-436 .
Abstract   PDF(pc) (48KB) ( 468 )
It is argued that the longitudinal part of space-like photon in its Breit frame is unable to transform into vector meson. Starting from this argument and adding a small amount of diquark component into the nucleon structure functions in nuclei, the A dependence of the RA = σALAT value observed in electron nucleus DIS by the SLAC Group is explained.

METASTABLE PHASES IN EPITAXIAL Nb-La AND Nb-Ce SYSTEM
ZHANG Jinlong, XIONG Guangcheng, GU Hui, CAI Xueyu, YE Zhiyuan, LU Guo, LI Chuanyi, YIN Daole
Chin. Phys. Lett. 1986, 3 (10): 437-440 .
Abstract   PDF(pc) (50KB) ( 360 )
Epitaxial metal film sandwiches of Nb-La-Nb and Nb-Ce-Nb have been prepared in an ultra high vacuum environment. In the sandwiches the La layers and Ce layers are found to be fcc La and bcc Ce, respectively, different from that of bulks. The transmission electron microscope (TEM) observations indicate that La or Ce was grown with partial pseudomorphism epitaxy on bcc Nb layers. The origin of the unusual epitaxies has been discussed.
QUANTUM DEFECT THEORY IONIZATION CHANNELS OF SUPER-EXCITED MOLECULE SO2
GUO Weili, LIANG Xiaoling, LI Jiaming
Chin. Phys. Lett. 1986, 3 (10): 441-444 .
Abstract   PDF(pc) (45KB) ( 458 )
The structure of Rydberg states can be described by a compact set of physical parameters in Quantum Defect Theory. We here present our theoretical calculations of the physical parameters for the triatomic molecule SO2. As an illustrative example, we also compare our theoretical results with the experimental spectra below the sulfer LII,III edges in SO2. They are in good agreement.

THE MASS GAP IN 2+1 DIMENSIONAL U(1) LATTICE GAUGE THEORY
GUO Shuohong, ZHENG Weihong, LIU Jinming
Chin. Phys. Lett. 1986, 3 (10): 445-448 .
Abstract   PDF(pc) (40KB) ( 412 )
We present a variational calculation of the mass gap in 2+1 dimensional U(1) lattice gauge theory using a hamiltonian of which the ground state is exactly known. An exponentially decreasing curve for ma us 1/g2 is obtained, but the slope is much larger than that predicted in the periodic Gaussian model.

VIBRATION SPECTRUM AND SPECTRAL DIMENSION OF ONE-DIMENSIONAL COMPLEX PENROSE CHAIN
HU Genyou, CHEN Lei, TAO Ruibao
Chin. Phys. Lett. 1986, 3 (10): 449-452 .
Abstract   PDF(pc) (49KB) ( 491 )
The vibration spectrum and the scaling exponents near zero frequency are calculated for me-dimensional complex Penrose chain which is constituted with two kinds of atoms and without any periodic structure. The results show that there are obviously several gape. The scaling exponent of frequence, defined by ω(bN) ~ b-aω(N), equals one. The Penrose chain is a nontrivial fractal with the inhomogeneous and selfsimilar structure, the fractal and spectral dimensions me all equal to one.

LIN Zunqi, BI Wuji, PAN Chengming, LU Haihe, LI Jiaming* (C.M. Lee)
Chin. Phys. Lett. 1986, 3 (10): 453-456 .
Abstract   PDF(pc) (50KB) ( 505 )
We present preliminary studies of the laser-imploded glass microballons by our newly developed multi-frame X-ray shadowgraphy which is in good agreement with our simulation calculation. The study shows that uniform illumination is an important factor for good implosions.

CHARGE EXCHANGE INTO EXCITED STATES IN COLLISIONS BETWEEN NOBLE GAS IONS AND ATOMS
LIU Jiarui, LEI Ziming, PAN Guangyan
Chin. Phys. Lett. 1986, 3 (10): 457-460 .
Abstract   PDF(pc) (57KB) ( 549 )
Experimental results obtained demonstrate that there are two processes of excitation in every collision system: one is an one-electron capture into excited states, the other is a direct excitation of projectile and target by projectile ion impact. From the comparison of the emission cross sections between the two collision systems, we find that the potential energy defect and the velocity of incident ion are very important factors in emission cross sections, and a competition process of these factors in collisions occurs.
THE SEARCH FOR MAGNETIC YONOPOLES IN MAGNETITE FROM NORTH CHINA
CUI Huanhua, DONG Baozhong, TANG Xiaowei, WU Risheng, ZHENG Puying
Chin. Phys. Lett. 1986, 3 (10): 461-464 .
Abstract   PDF(pc) (53KB) ( 563 )
Using the 27 KG magnetic field produced by a superconducting solenoid we have searched for trapped magnetic monopoles in a magnetite sample from North China. We have scanned the nuclear emulsion both for low ionizing tracks and heavily ionizing tracks, and the plastic film for heavily ionizing tracks of magnetic monopoles. We obtain a 90 % confidence level upper limit of 1.8x10-26 monopoles per nucleon in the magnetite sample.

Chin. Phys. Lett. 1986, 3 (10): 465-468 .
Abstract   PDF(pc) (48KB) ( 422 )
We report the first observation of the laser-induced fluorescence excitation spectrum of the A1A" (000) - X1A(010) vibronic band of HCF with the technique of molecular beams.

BIFURCATION AND CHAOS OF DIRECT RADIATION -LOUDSPEAKER
WEI Rongjue, TAO Qintian, NI Wansun
Chin. Phys. Lett. 1986, 3 (10): 469-472 .
Abstract   PDF(pc) (69KB) ( 495 )
The bifurcation and chaos of an 8" cone loudspeaker from its radiation in axial direction have been investigated by adopting an experimental setup quite similar to that of measuring frequency response in an anechois room. Experiments show that lower order and more fractional subharmonics of the fed-in signal begin to appear with increasing input voltage and eventually a chaotic state is reached.
DEPENDENCE OF THE ENERGY LEVELS RELATED TO TITANIUM IN SILICON ON ELECTRIC FIELD
GAO Xiaoping, XU Zhenjia(Hsu Chen-chia)
Chin. Phys. Lett. 1986, 3 (10): 473-476 .
Abstract   PDF(pc) (50KB) ( 518 )
DLTS and DDLTS measurements show that impurity Ti in Si is associated with two electron energy levels Ec-.0.22eV, Ec-0.54eV, and one hole energy level Ev+0.29eV. The “thermal activation energy” of these two electron energy levels decreases with the increase of the electric fieid, 5ut that of the hole energy level is independent on electric field. It suggests that these three energy levels should be associated with donor centers.

SERS EXCITATION PROFILES OF COADSORBED MOLECULES OF O-NITROBENZOIC ACID AND PYRIDINE
GAO Xiaoping, LIU Fanzhen*, ZHUANG Weiping, ZHANG Pengxiang
Chin. Phys. Lett. 1986, 3 (10): 477-480 .
Abstract   PDF(pc) (52KB) ( 422 )
It is proposed in this paper that the comparison experiments on SERS excitation profiles of coadsorbed molecules can provide a critical test of the nature of SERS resonance mechanisms. O- nitrobenzoic acid and pyridine coadsorbed on Ag sol have different resonant maxima in their SERS excitation profiles. Unlike usual excitation experiments on SERS, the results show that there must be a non-electromagnetic enhancement mechanism on SERS.
