Optical Absorption Spectra of Cr3+ and Cr4+ in Sr3Ga2Ge4O14 Garnet Crystals

Abstract Single crystals of Sr3Ga2Ge4O14:Cr are grown by the Czochralski method. The polarized optical absorption spectra of Cr in visible and near-infrared wavelength are presented and analyzed. It is suggested that Cr enters the octahedral and tetrahedral positions as Cr3+ and Cr4+respectively.
